मथितं शर्करायुक्तमेलाचूर्णविमिश्रितम् । कर्पूरधूपितं नाम्ना मज्जिकेत्यभिधीयते ॥ ७३ ॥

English

Mathita, joined with sugar, mixed with cardamom powder, and fumigated with camphor smoke, is called by the name majjikā.

A sweet, cardamom-scented buttermilk drink. Buttermilk is hard to find where I am, so I substituted Greek yoghurt thinned with water to the consistency I wanted and sweetened to taste. I have not yet found camphor that I trust to eat.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml fresh buttermilk
  • 40 g sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cardamom
  • Optional: a speck of food-grade edible camphor

Method

  1. Whisk the buttermilk with the sugar and cardamom until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add the smallest possible speck of edible camphor if using.
  3. Chill well and serve.
